The Dusi committee has confirmed the death of top paddler Graeme Pope-Ellis in a tractor accident on his farm outside Pietermaritzburg yesterday.
Pope-Ellis, an icon in the canoeing fraternity, had been ploughing when the tractor rolled over him.
The 62 year old emerged victorious in the marathon 15 times and participated in it for 46 consecutive years.
He is survived by his wife and daughter Leigh.
