Reports say at least 11 people have been killed by the worst flash floods in more than 20 years in south-eastern France.
Several others have been reported missing after torrential rain hit the mountains above the Cote D'Azur region.
Hundreds of homes and cars were engulfed by the floodwaters. Among the towns affected were Arcs, Luc, Muy and Roquebrune-sur-Argens.
In Mexico at least 13 people have been killed in a collision between freight trains in the north-west of the country.
TV footage shows dozens of wrecked train carriages that had been burnt in a fire caused by the initial crash.
From Indonesia comes the news that at least two people have been killed after a series of powerful earthquakes in the area.
The Indonesian earthquake agency said the largest quake, off the coast of Papua in eastern Indonesia, had a magnitude of seven-point-one.
