A troubled French squad gave South Africans hope today as the two sides take on one another in their final group match of the Fifa World Cup.

Both teams came out swinging in the opening match, with France looking to shake off recent media scorn back home.

Meanwhile, South Africa are set to make history today and will either be the first host nation to be knocked out of the tournament before the second round, or will be the first South African team to make it to the Round of 16.

South Africa scored their first goal in the 20th minute of the game, with a cracking header by Bongani Khumalo then a second goal by Katlego Killer Mphela.

On the other match between Mexico and Uruguay the score is 1 to nil with Uruguay leading.
