A 21 year old man is behind bars after he was found in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Athlone this morning.
The suspect was arrested after police members searched a suspicious looking vehicle with three occupants in the Vygieskraal area.
Warrant Officer Ian Bennet says the suspect was in possession of Petro Beretta, which was shoved in his belt.
Meanwhile, a 25 year old man who was driving the vehicle was fined for driving without license and driving an unlicensed motor vehicle.
Bannet says the 21 year old suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court, once he has been charged.
