A Johannesburg man shot and killed his wife aged 40 years, his friend and shot and wounded his 20year old stepson, and then shot himself.

Captain Johannes Ramphora has been reported as saying “He drove up to her driveway and blew the hooter; she came out carrying her baby. An argument apparently ensued and the man pulled out a gun”. Captain Ramphora stated that the “man first shot his friend in the car and the wife ran into the house. He followed her and shot her and her stepson before shooting himself”.

The stepson is in a critical condition in the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg.

Police say the 9mm Baretta pistol that was used in the shooting was stolen and the white Toyota Corolla car that the man was driving was hijacked in KwaThema outside of Springs.

A murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm docket has been opened, and police will investigate whether the deceased was involved in any crime.
