Earlier this month it was revealed that many municipalities around the country were in arrears with Eskom and 93 of those municipalities were in the Free State.

Following Eskom’s threat to cut off 11 Free State municipalities’ electricity due to outstanding accounts, five municipalities yesterday settled their arrears.

The power utility issued the 11 municipalities with notices of its intention to disconnect their electricity supply if they did not settle their outstanding accounts before next Tuesday.
