Five Democratic Alliance members who were going to attend the DA conference escaped serious injuries when a hotel lift they were in plunged three storeys.
The incident occurred early this morning in a hotel building in St George’s Street in Cape Town.
It has been reported that the emergency brake jerked the lift to a halt between the ground and basement floors.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Lauren Copley stated that a woman, estimated to be in her mid thirties, was treated on the scene after complaining of lower back pain, while another woman in her fifties was treated for upper back and neck pain.
They were both stabilised and transported to Netcare Christiaan Bernard hospital.
The good thing is that nobody was seriously injured.
This is the second incident involving a lift in a space of a week that paramedics had to attend to.
