Initiation deaths rise in the Eastern Cape

Initiation deaths in the Eastern Cape have shockingly increased.

Two more boys have died; one of the two boys was a 19 year old boy who was part of an initiation school in Nyanisweni Village in Bizana.

The initiation school was set alight on Saturday morning Provincial Health Department Spokesperson said.

All the 11 boys suffered burn wounds when the grass hut they were in caught fire.

Another boy died due to injuries caused by the fire.

The fire is suspected caused by an arson attack and police are investigating the occurrence.

This incident brings the winter circumcision death toll in the Eastern Cape to 41 in total.
