More witnesses are being lined up for Jackie Selebi’s next court hearing that resumes on 2 August 2010.
Selebi’s sentencing arguments started on Wednesday at the South Gauteng High court and were postponed after just one of Jackie’s character witness, Denn Alberts.
The witness was a retired police commissioner who spoke about Selebi’s character and leadership abilities.
It is not clear on how the defence team will prove that special circumstances exist for the minimum sentence of 15 years in jail to be ignored.
They may raise issues such as Selebi’s health, age as well as the dangers he faces as a former police chief in jail.
More is still to come on Selebi’s case in August.
