A minibus taxi burst into flames after it collided into a bakkie, at the intersection of Carl Cronje Drive and Mispel Street, in Tygervalley.

The driver was the only person in the taxi and escaped the fire. He sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Tygerberg Hospital.

The driver was stuck in the vehicle and the bakkie was stuck against a traffic light. A tow-truck used its crane to force open the driver’s side door to free the driver. He sustained minor injuries but declined being transported to hospital.

The Fire Department arrived extinguished the fire within minutes. At this stage, the cause of the incident is unknown.
