Two police constables were arrested for armed robbery in Old location, Nyanga today.
On Wednesday a man was busy opening a gate when he was approached by five male suspects who introduced themselves as police officials and enquired for an address. While the victim was busy giving direction, the suspects robbed him of his valuables.
The suspects fled in a black VW Golf and a white Renault Leguna when the man screamed for help.
“It is alleged the suspects sped off with three boxes of jewellery worth R23 000 and R12 000 cash. Community members managed to get a number plate who provided it to police, who traced the ownership to a police constable, based at Milnerton police station, “ said Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.
Police investigation led to the arrest of two police constables at Milnerton and Langa police stations this morning.
The two suspects aged 28 and 37 will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 July 2010 on charges of armed robbery.
