A woman was shot and her son was seriously wounded in a hostage in Kempton Park on the East Rand.
A man shot his wife in the neck and shot his son a couple of times.
The woman managed to escape the house and is reportedly in a serious but critical condition in hospital.
A special police negotiation team were on the scene immediately trying to convince the man to release his son.
The police are not sure if the boy was still alive after hours into the hostage drama.
