UCT student drowned at Logi Bay

A final year electrical engineering student Mndeni Hlatswayo aged 25, from the University of Cape Town is believed to have drowned at Logi Bay on Heritage Day.

He was sitting on the rocks with friends at about 2.30pm on Friday watching the rough seas at spring high tide.

He went for a walk among the rocks and did not return. It is believed he was swept off the rocks.

Llandudno surf lifeguards, the NSRI from Hout Bay and Bakoven as well as the police, the Metro Red Cross AMS helicopter and Metro Ambulance and Rescue searched for Hlatswayo on Friday and the search continued on Saturday but there was no sign of him.

Police have opened an inquest docket and have appealed to anyone who saw anything to call the Hout Bay police or the Flying Squad at 10111.
