An accident at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine in Carletonville on Wednesday has left a mine worker dead.
The crew on the ship were busy moving equipment in the shaft when the incident occurred.
The company said, "Hoisting operations have temporarily been stopped until such time as an investigation into the accident has been completed."
