The 15-year-old schoolgirl from the Jules High School in Johannesburg and the two boys alleged to have raped her on the 4th of this month have all been charged with statutory rape.

Director of Public Prosecutions Menzi Simelane decided that the girl, who claims to be the victim, should also be charged.

The two boys, aged 14 and 16, appeared in camera in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The case against them has been postponed until early next month and the girl’s case is being handled separately and will resume today.

Child line’s Lynne Cawood said “We do feel that this is further brutalisation and secondly traumatisation of a child who is incredibly vulnerable”.
