The Basic Education Department of the Eastern Cape has denied that the schooling system in the province is facing collapse.
Department spokesperson, Loyiso Pulumani, admits however that they are facing numerous problems due to a lack of funds.
The South African Democratic Teacher’s Union, has stated in a statement that 1 130 Section 20 schools have not received learner materials due to alleged fraud in the tendering processes.
Pulumani says SADTU which made the claims, is up in arms because the Department has not renewed term teacher contracts.
