National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele has ordered additional police members be deployed in the Ermelo area of Mpumalanga. The decision comes as a second day of service delivery protests rocked the province.

Cele says further intervention has become necessary as the protests turned violent. Protesters are reportedly burning tyres, throwing stones, and even using live ammunition against police.

A television news crew was also assaulted while trying to report on the protests.
