The ANC’s much-awaited Western Cape provincial elective conference failed to start last night.

International Affairs and Cooperation deputy minister Marius Fransman and former ANC provincial secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha are the top contenders for the position as provincial ANC leader, but reports say the start of the conference was delayed last night following tensions between the two camps.

It’s reported that extra Skwatsha supporters arrived at a late stage. ANC leaders held crisis talks in Guguletu for hours last night to discuss the attempts to get more votes for Skwatsha.

The conference was scheduled to start at the Cape Town International Convention Centre yesterday afternoon.
