N1 accident leaves ten people dead

Ten people have been killed in an accident that happened this morning 20km east of Leeugamka.

Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Keri Davids says the taxi burst into flames while passing through an earlier accident scene.

“The taxi was travelling from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town. Ten people died on the scene.

“The Western Cape Forensic Pathology Services, EMS and SAPS are still on the scene and the eight surviving casualties’ sustained serious third degrees burns; spinal and head injuries and have been transported to Beaufort West Provincial Hospital,” said Davids.

Davids added that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Beaufort West Forensic Pathology Laboratory and awaiting identification and post mortem.
