City of Cape Town Traffic Officers have arrested 61 drunk drivers and recorded over a thousand speeding offences during roadblocks and high visibility patrols held across the city this weekend.

City of Cape Town Traffic Officers Chief Inspector Merle Lourens says officers arrested 12 drunk drivers on Kommetjie Road in Fish Hoek, including one suspect who was arrested for the second time in just over two months.

“A 32 year-old motorist, whose case in still pending in court, was first arrested in Muizenberg on 30 July, after her breathalyser test reading showed 0, 56 mg of alcohol per 1000 ml of breath.

“Her second arrest, recorded on Saturday evening, revealed a breathalyser reading measuring 0, 35 mg of alcohol per 1000 ml of breath,” said Lourens.

She adds that officers arrested another 11 drunk drivers on Modderdam Road and nine drunk drivers on Wynberg Main Road.

“Our relentless efforts to apprehend drunk drivers continue to bear positive results. We appeal to motorists to please avoid consuming alcohol if they intend to drive,” said Lourens.
