A Free State family is in mourning after two brothers, aged five and eight, were killed in an accident in Parys.
Their adult sister and 10-year-old brother were seriously injured. Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks says the two siblings who died had been riding in the back of an uncovered bakkie, while their sister and brother were in the cab.
The sister’s boyfriend had been driving the vehicle. It collided head-on with another bakkie, and side-swept a motorcyclist. The drivers of the two bakkies ran away after the accident.
In Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, police are investigating a fire in which seven people were killed.
The tragedy happened in the GG Camp in Bongulethu. The victims who were burnt beyond recognition include three children.
Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie says other family members who shared the dwelling narrowly escaped the flames.
