Top leaders of the African National Congress have used the 8 January statement in calling for party discipline they are admitting that education was in crisis and to state the Freedom Charter demand for mineral wealth be transferred to the people.
President Jacob Zuma delivered a summary of the statement at the highpoint of the party's celebrations on Sunday.
Zuma mentioned that it is currently the right moment for the nation to pause and ponder on the future of South Africa and of the ANC over the next 100 years.
There was very little mention of job creation and the economy but the great emphasis was placed on party discipline.
