Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz called for stronger action to be taken against parents who abuse their children.

This comes after a Sir Lowry`s Pass Village mother was arrested on charges of abuse.

The woman is alleged to have locked up her children aged two and five years-old inside a shack.

The police were informed by neighbours on Wednesday after they heard cries from a tiny shack in the area. When police opened they found the older child tied to the bed.

The mother will appear in court today.
