The Western Cape has been hit by dry and hot conditions in the last few days. These conditions are favorable to fires.

The temperatures range between 30-39 degrees Celsius in and around the Western Cape.

The heat and windy conditions yesterday gave firefighters hard time as they were trying to extinguish a fire in Lusaka informal settlements in Nyanga.

More than 100 people were left destitute in Lusaka and about 160 people displaced when a shack fire gutted 45 shacks in Barcelona informal in Crossroads.

The cause of the fires is still not known and no injuries were reported.
