A man has died after being hit by a vehicle on the R56 near Pietermaritzburg earlier today.
Reports indicate that the 25-year-old man was trying to cross the road when a vehicle smashed into him.Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man in the roadway in a critical condition.
Medics worked enthusiastically for more than an hour to resuscitate the man but he tragically died on scene due to the extensive injuries that he had sustained.

The accident will be investigated by police.
