The District 6 Beneficiary and Redevelopment Trust said yesterday that giving back their homes after 40 years was an emotional experience.
Yesterday marked the 46th anniversary of the declaration of District 6 as a white neighbourhood by Apartheid authorities under the Group Areas Act.
The two-phase delivery cycle will see over 1000 claimants resettle in the area by February 2014.
The Trust’s Nas Ally said the land had to be given back to the people who owned it.
