Gugulethu fire displaces 25 people

A fire occurred in the early hours of this morning at the Traverso Hostels situated in Gugulethu.

The fire severly damaged 6 rooms of the two hostels which is the property of the City of Cape Town.

This resulted in the displacement of 25 people.

The City’s building inspectorate was called out to examine the extent of damages caused to the building.It was then determined that the fire has rendered the units structurally unsound and has therefore issued emergency work to be done.

No injuries have been sustained and all persons are accounted for.

The cause of the fire is still unclear and authorities are investigating the incident
