The ANC’s Trevor Manuel welcomed the news that the birthplace of the United Democratic Front UDF in Mitchell’s Plain will be part of a host of heritage projects.

Jacob Zuma made the announcement in his State of the Nation Address this week.

Manuel who is in charge of the party’s Mitchell’s Plain constituency and a founding member of the UDF said it was a fitting tribute.

He said he hopes Johnny Issel’s name will be among those fondly remembered for the many sacrifices he made.
