Minister Richard Baloyi assures that government does not intend to scrap the provinces

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi gave assurance that government will not scrap the nine provinces.

 Baloyi was responding to a question during a media briefing in Cape Town.

 Cosatu general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi brought the debate on the number of provinces.

 Vavi called for the scrapping of all of them this week.

Vavi further said that the nine provinces have become a burden on the state.
