Dog owners from Cape Town are reminded to make sure their pets are registered by July this year or risk having them confiscated.
Last year a three year old boy was attacked to death by a pack of stray dogs in Philippi.
The city's Animal Control Unit said it gathered more than 1,200 stray dogs in the past seven months.
Spokesperson Neil Arendse said all registered dogs will be fitted with ID collars.
