A police helicopter has been called in to assist a riot squad who are trying to control thousands of angry mineworkers at Impala Platinum’s Rustenburg mine in the North West.

The mineworkers have already blockaded roads, torched a police station and started looting shops in the townships close to the mine.

The miners started protesting after a man was found naked and beaten outside one the hostels.
