The ANC in the Western Cape has welcomed the decision by civic organisations, parents, representatives of labour, businesses and members of the public.

The organisations had agreed to form an education forum in the Theewaterskloof municipality.

This comes after the overcrowding crisis in the Umyezo Wamampile combined school and Groenberg Secondary Schools in Grabouw.

The crisis led to racially-based clashes when the residents took to the streets.

The ANC says the forum will be able to draw on the considerable success of the Mitchells Plain Education Forum on the Cape Flats which has been in operation for a year.
