Yesterday the City of Cape Town said conditions in informal settlements made it difficult for firefighters to prevent blazes from spreading.
Officials encourage residents to create fire breaks and exit routes to prevent future fires from extending.
One woman died and 1000 people were left homeless when a fire destroyed their shacks in Langa yesterday morning.
Residents believed a candle fell over in the home of the deceased which triggered the blaze.
