The Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato on Wednesday called on residents to be proactive in fighting crime in their communities.

Plato embarked on a door-to-door campaign in Makhaza.

While talking with several residents Plato also questioned them about their safety concerns.

Some community leaders in the area interrupted the process by saying the Plato should have informed them of his visit.

The locals said that the MEC should have gone through them if he wants to talk to residents.
