The situation in Grabouw outside Somerset West remains tense following a stand-off between residents and police.

The Grabouw residents are marching through the town in protest against poorer infrastructure at a local school.

Residents earlier attempted to march along the N2 towards Cape Town.

The officials were then forced to close Sir Lowry's Pass in both directions.

The police's Frederick van Wyk said that they used stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

Frederick van Wyk added that they are monitoring the situation and it remains very tense.
