Metrorail announced a reduced fare hike

Metrorail in the Western Cape has reduced fare hikes that will start from the 1st of April.

The transport company announced today that the fare hike has been reduced from 27-percent to 13-percent.

Metrorail provincial manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz says passengers who buy monthly tickets will also get a 15-percent discount for the first three months.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions has welcomed the percentage decrease.

Cosatu has been campaigning against the proposed hike.
