Learners at a Mitchells Plain high school who started off the year with no writing material will now be able to participate in class.

Beacon Hill High School learners received R20,000 worth of stationery on Monday.

The school is situated in a poor community where most households consist of single parents or where grandparents are the breadwinners.

A member of the Mitchell Plain Education Forum, Ishmail Chothia said that even though the school is partially subsidized by government the funding is just not enough to cover the basics at the school.
