20 men appeared at the Cape High Court for abalone crimes

About 20 men appeared at the Cape High Court today, on various charges under the Marine Living Resources Act.

The men are allegedly involved in the illegal harvesting, processing and exporting more than 200 000 units of abalone.

The Department of Forestry and Fisheries`s Spokesperson Lionel Adendorf said that these men are being charged under the Marine Living Resources Act for their alleged involvement in exporting about 3.2 tons of abalone.

Adendorf six men out of the twenty have pleaded guilty and the case against the other 15 men will continue on Tuesday.
