Chrysalis pilot drug testing project is a success- MEC Dan Plato

The Western Cape Chrysalis Academy was provided with a R90 000 conditional grant in 2011, to implement a drug testing pilot project.

 The project is aimed at reducing the level of substance abuse among the youth attending the Academy though random drug testing and an informative education programme around substance abuse.

The Western Cape Community Safety Spokesperson Greg Wagner said that the ministry`s office has received an extensive report on the pilot project.

Wagner further said that on the report the project has seen a major reduction in substance abuse.

Wagner added that the Department of Community Safety will continue to fund the programme, based on its success.
