Fisherman in a stable condition

The National Sea Rescue Institute on Wednesday was activated to rescue a fisherman on a fishing boat near Simonstown.

The fisherman had a serious head injury after being hit on the head by a rope on.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.

NSRI `s Craig Lambinon says that when the rescue team arrived they found that the fishing boat  was towing their another fishing boat towards Simonstown when the nylon tow-rope snapped and recoiled and during the recoil 28 year old fisherman Siphelele Matomela, from Saldanha Bay, was hit on the head by the rope.

Lambinon added that the patient had to be kept on board because of the strong wind.

Lambinon further said only after they got into the harbour the patient was transferred into an ambulance and transported to hospital in a stable condition.
