ANC members of the Council of Provinces have proposed new changes to the controversial State of Information Bill.

The National Council of Provinces has agreed to make special exception to protect journalists and whistleblowers from the protection of state information bill.

The Council’s adhoc committee on Thursday made an explicit exemption to protect anyone who publishes classified information that exposes government wrongdoing.

These changes have come after pressure from press freedom activists and organisations.
