Today at the Budget Vote of the Department of Communications, Minister Dina Pule highlighted the budget for the 2012/2013 financial year.

She focused on three flagship programmes which are policy reform, broadband migration and modem infrastructure.

The proposed 24 hour SABC news channel was also discussed by the minister. Pule said that her department supports it fully.

In November this year an  Information and Communication Technology (ICT) conference will be held to encourage women and girls to join the sector.

A goal has been set by the department to make sure that every municipality will have a community radio station.

The department has vowed to work on programmes to develop community radio.
