A man sustained serious injuries this morning following a forklift accident at a steel warehouse in Wartburg in Durban.

The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage but the worker was driving the forklift when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and fell out from behind the steering wheel.

ER24` Andre Visser says the forklift then proceeded to roll over the worker before coming to a standstill on top of him.

Visser says about 15 of his colleagues assisted in lifting up the vehicle off the man.

Visser also said the man received Advanced Life Support treatment at the scene for suspected back and neck injuries, an injury to his left shoulder and a broken right leg.

He added that the man was later transported to Mediclinic in Pietermaritzburg for further medical attention.
