On Monday the Western Cape’s Work and Skills for 100 000 programme was showcased in Cape Town.

The Premier of the Western Cape Helen Zille said the youth wage scheme used in the province should be seen as an example of what can be done at national level if the Youth Wage Subsidy is implemented by the government.

Spokesperson to the premier Zak Mbhele said youth unemployment is at crisis level in the country.

He added the lack of practical work experience is one of the main barriers for job market entry for young people.

He added that the work and skills programme is an intervention of the Western Cape government to address youth unemployment.
