Today marked the upgrade of the B1 medical ward at Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
This was the first time the ward has been upgraded since it was opened in 1956.
Head of paediatrics and infectious diseases unit Brian Elley said they are quite excited about the upgrade because it allows them to improve the quality of the care that they administer to the children.
Elley said they paid particular attention to parents and the care givers of the children.
He added that the majority of the people come from poor settings and they have created a special area in the ward.
The area is aimed at giving parents the space to rest, eat and wash up.
Elley said this is a very important aspect of the upgrade.
