On Thursday Transport and Public Works MEC in the Western Cape Robin Carlisle and Western Cape Regional Manager of Metrorail Mthuthuzeli Swartz, together announced that the CCTV system at level crossings is finally available.
The announcement took place at Retreat Station.
The head of the ministry Hector Eliott said the system was placed at a particularly dangerous level crossing.
He added that the department is now processing violations that have been caught on camera.
Fines will be issued starting at R500.
