20 June 2012

Today is World Refugee Day and a number of refugees gathered at the City Centre and marched to the Parliament to hand over a memorandum.

The refugees gathered to celebrate Refugee Day and also to plead with the government not to close down the Refugee Centre in Cape Town, Maitland.

The protestors are disappointed over the Department of Home Affairs decision to permanently close down the centre.

The centre will be closed down on the 29th of June. The refugees say to close the office down so suddenly and without proper consultation shows lack of compassion and respect for the basic rights of foreigners.
