New amendments to the regulations of the National Road Traffic Act could come into effect later this year.

Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle says a number of the amendments will improve road safety but might be controversial to South African citizens.
These include the introduction of a year-long provisional status for new drivers-licence holders.
