Congress of South Africa Trade Unions had discussions with engineers and architects who felt that it was possible to turn the Cape Town stadium into low cost housing for people in Cape Town.

Cosatu calls on the City of Cape Town that if public funds are being spent on the stadium then it should be spent in a way that the most vulnerable people of Cape Town will benefit.

Cosatu`s Tony Ehrenreich says the City of Cape Town has already spent millions every year subsidising transport to wealthy areas.

Ehrenreich also said that Cosatu would like to see the stadium converted into housing so that the City of Cape Town becomes integrated between black and white communities.

He added that before the stadium is dismantled it should be used for housing.
