On Wednesday morning ER24 paramedics responded to a call in Hillcrest in Durban to assist with a veld fire.
When paramedics arrived on the scene they found that a 46-year-old fireman had fallen down an approximately 15m high cliff.
ER24’s Andre Visser said rope rescue technicians from rescue tech then abseiled down with ER24 paramedics.
They also carried down rescue equipment.
Visser said the man sustained a serious injury to his left leg in the form of a broken bone as well as suspected back and neck injuries.
The fireman was later airlifted to a nearby hospital.
